Laboratory Safety Introductory Course

Bloodborne Pathogens

  • Recommended (and often required) for research where you may come in contact with blood and/ or body fluids. Harmful pathogens such as HIV, HBV, HCV are spread through these substances and the risk of infection is real. This course will explain how to reduce or limit exposure to potential bloodborne pathogens.

CITI Human Subject Research Training

  • Required training for students listed on an IRB application and recommended for all students working with human subjects in any field.

Health Privacy Issues for Researchers Training (CITI)

  • Recommended course for all students working with human subjects and health data/ information.
  • This course provides information on the core elements of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements. Additional content is meant to supplement by focusing on healthcare roles and types of activities, since HIPAA’s requirements are largely conditioned by the purposes behind the collection, use or disclosure of health information.

Patient Privacy for Workforce Members

  • Course provides a general review of HIPAA privacy requirements for all workforce members at Johns Hopkins health care provider organizations and how those requirements are implemented at Johns Hopkins.

Electronic Information Security and Data Management Training

Animal Care and Use (ACUC)

  • Required for all students utilizing or working with animals in their research.
  • This course provides crucial information about regulations, policies, and practices that must be followed when working with animals at JHU. You’ll learn what you need to do to ensure that animals are cared for properly and treated humanely.

JHU Animal Exposure Surveillance Program (AESP) Registration

  • This registration is required to be included on any research protocol through the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • The AESP exists to ensure Hopkins staff and researchers with occupational exposure to animals and/ or animal-derived materials are monitored with regard to health and safety issues.
  • Go to the AESP website and click on the link for the AESP Registration Form (for new registrations). Complete the form and fax (410-955-1617) or mail to Occupational Health Services
